Strawberry Banana Yogurt Smoothie! ~ Eating With Kirby

Strawberry Banana Yogurt Smoothie!

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day but yet many people skip it. If you wait until lunch to eat, your body will be starving (even if you don't feel like it), and will conserve as many calories as it can during lunch. Therefore, in order to jump start your metabolism and get a kick of instant energy, I recommend making an easy and delicious smoothie. If you are in a rush, take it with you on the go!

I added a bit of whey protein and fiber powder to my smoothie as this was my post-workout drink.  (I heard eating protein after you exercise will help you lose fat, gain muscle, and curb your appetite, so I decided to give it a try) You can substitute protein powder with grounded flax seed (source of omega-3), soy protein powder, or green plant powder to give your smoothie an extra boost.

I used frozen strawberries, but you can use fresh ones if you have them on hand. Just make sure to include 3-5 extra ice cubes to your mix.

Since you will need to add liquid to your smoothie, use any type of juice you prefer (except orange). I personally think apple juice is the most versatile because it provides a sweet base without being too thick (unlike my odwalla juice which made my smoothie a bit too thick)

All ready to be blended up!

Ingredients:
1 Banana
1 Cup of Frozen Strawberries
1 Individual Yogurt Cup
3 Spoonfuls of Protein and Fiber Powder (optional)
1 Cup of Juice (your choice)

Place all the ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth. That's it! Pretty easy eh?

*Remember*
  • when you substitute frozen fruit with fresh fruit, make sure to add a couple (3-5) ice cubes or else the smoothie won't be cold!
  • If you don't know what juice to use, go with the safe choice of apple juice. Avoid orange or any other citrus juice if you have milk product in the smoothie (such as this one).
  • If you made too much and want to save a glass or two for later, be sure to cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it. Leaving it out in the open causes nutrients to oxidize and you won't get the maximum benefits of the smoothie.

Hope you enjoy this recipe and Happy Drinking!
