I met up with my friend, Unger recently for a little
weekend brunch. We were torn between Jethro’s Fine Grub and Sophie’s Cosmic
Cafe, but we ended up choosing the latter.
Sophie’s Cosmic Cafe is located in Kitsilano and looks super
quirky from the outside.
The inside looks quirky too with its old dinner style red
booths and nostalgic randoms on the wall.
Pretty neat eh?
They also have interesting placemats drawn by little kids.
It is really sweet and just makes you feel like you are in a friendly
neighbourhood cafe.
I love their gigantic bottle of ‘Sophie’s hot sauce’! I used so much of it with my hash browns.
I believe Unger ordered the Lumberjack Breakfast (~$10) which came with three eggs, two HUGE
pancakes, ham, and bacon. He couldn’t finish it all and that’s saying something
because he usually has quite a big appetite.
After hearing great reviews about their eggs Benedict, I
ordered the Florentine Eggs Benny (~$10).
Oh these eggs benedict were heaven. The hollandaise sauce
was absolutely delicious but I wish they gave me more! Haha On the other hand,
they were very generous with the chopped (frozen) spinach so I can’t complain.
Here is another action shot! I loved how the eggs were
perfectly poached with the yolk still runny and gooey. It really takes skill to
make such perfectly soft poached eggs so I applaud them. I highly recommend checking
this neighbourhood cafe out!
Based on these reasons:
- great place for breakfast and lunch (or brunch :P)
- very quirky and retro
- reasonably priced
