The Crab King- Excellent Addition to Steveston

Meta Knight and I took a stroll on Steveston one day and we initially wanted to go to Pajo’s for fish and chips. However, as we walked closer, we both noticed a new restaurant that is located on the water near Pajo’s so we decided to check it out.

This place is called, The Crab King. I was so excited about finding a new restaurant that I completely forgot about Pajo’s and Meta Knight caved in and said he would tried it out with me. :D

The Crab King opened only two months ago but they seem to be attracting quite a few people already. The ordering system is very much like Pajo’s where you order at the counter first and then they bring the food out to you.

They serve “boardwalk food” such as Poutine with Crab Meat, ½ Dungness Crab, Seafood Spring Rolls, Miso Soup...etc. If I’m not mistaken, this place is run by an Asian family so that is probably where the Asian influenced menu is from.

The other menu is for larger entrees such as “Feast for Two” or “A pot of Clams, Shrimps or Mussels”.  Meta Knight and I tried the Feast for Two ($19.95) which consisted of half a crab, two seafood spring rolls, two miso soups, and one pound of their crunchy French fries. Very reasonably priced if you ask me.

We were given a number to put on our table and one of their staff laid out a piece of paper on the table in case things got messy, which it did. But I mean, you’re eating seafood so it can’t be helped! :P

We loved sitting on the patio because it provided us with an amazing view and we also got to watch the sunset. I just wish we had a heat lamp near us because we got pretty cold half way. It was our fault though... we didn’t think about it and sat at the only table without a heat lamp. =.=

They give you a nice wooden board, an engraved mallet to crack those lovely crustaceans, and a crab fork to get into those hard to reach areas.

They give you a bib too!! So cuteee :D This whole experience reminded me of the Crab Pot in Seattle.

So here is the Feast for Two at a glance. They give you clarified garlic butter and a dipping sauce for the spring rolls too.

The miso soup was great on a cold day. It had great flavour and didn’t taste like it came from a package.

We only ordered half a crab but they gave us the shell too which was nice! There is not much to eat inside the head but it has that high cholesterol part that a lot of Asians like. :D We didn’t eat much of that because it tasted really fishy.

Meta Knight really likes this picture but I don't know why. :P

The crab had to be caught on that day because it was ridiculously fresh. I didn’t even need to use anything but my teeth to crack the shells.

I think you are buying the experience more than anything but it honestly does not hurt to have extremely delicious seafood to make you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth.

The seafood spring rolls that came with the meal were surprisingly very delicious! Aside from the little bits of shrimp meat, I couldn’t tell what other ‘seafood’ ingredients were used, but oh well, I didn’t care too much. They were fried to perfection and it tasted a lot like my Lil Sis’ famous Filipino spring rolls.

These fries were out of this world. I wouldn’t even be exaggerating if I said these were one of the best fries I’ve had.  They were obviously double fried (or even triple fried?! Can you do that?) so it was extremely crunchy.

This is an excellent addition to Steveston and I will definitely return to try some of their other offerings.
