I have heard many good things about Romer’s Burger Bar but
just never found the time (and effort) to try it out because it’s quite a distance from
where I live. I recently found out that they opened a new location near Marine
Drive and Kerr Street so now I have no excuse not to go! I met up with B-boy
for lunch and we chatted and ate... and ate some more... And by the time we were
done our lunch, I was in a food coma. =.=
The interior has a cool modern vibe to it with its red and
black colour scheme. I liked how the kitchen was completely open because I got
to see them cook my food. :D
The burgers come a la carte (am I saying this right??) which
means all you get is the burger itself, no sides. B-boy ordered the Romer’s Righteous Rib Burger ($12.00)
which contains “thick-sliced applewood bacon, braised short
rib, sweet onions, Gorgonzola garlic sauce, and fresh thyme leaves”. The
burger is served on a lightly grilled (maybe too lightly) brioche bun. They also
give you a garlic olive and pepperoncini on the side.
It looked pretty delicious, I gotta tell ya. However, even though
B-boy said it was really good, he preferred the Man’s Man Burger from his
previous visit because he didn’t like the fact that he had to tear at the ribs
with every bite.
Being a mushroom lover, I had to get the Magic Mushroom ($11.00) burger, heh heh. The burger had chopped BC portobellos,
arugula, herb and garlic Boursin cheese (cool!), and caramelized onions on a
very fluffy brioche bun.
The server told me to spread the Boursin cheese before eating so I
could get a bit of cheese in every bite. I really liked the burger as a whole
and adored the airiness of the bun. I wish they gave me more caramelized onions
and arugula because I felt like they were lost among all the other more
flavourful ingredients.
From this picture, the bun looks way too huge but it was actually fine to eat as the bun was so light.
We ordered the Fresh-Cut
Fries in Truffle Oil and Reggiano ($7.00)
to share and it was alright. We could smell the truffle oil but couldn't taste it. I think next time I’ll stick with the regular fries with sea
salt because I didn’t think this was worth seven dollars.
Just when I thought we were done our meal, B-boy recommended their
awesome donuts and asked if we could share it for dessert. Of course my brain
said no and my tummy said yes. I’m glad I listened to my tummy because these
donuts were absolute HEAVEN! These Famous
Drunken Doughnuts ($5.00) were freshly fried and came with three sinfully
delicious dips called Kahlua Nutella, Lemon Limoncello, and Maple Whisky.
They give you 10 mini donuts so it’s perfect for sharing. The dips
were so good I wanted to take the leftover home for dipping fruit or something.
:P
Based on these reasons:
- their drunken doughnuts is a must-order item!!
- great burgers (my fav is still Flying Beaver though)
- new location has a beautiful view and nice looking patio
- can get pricey if you get sides and dessert

I have to disagree. The view is awful of the dirty Fraser River and the logs and old wood framed buildings on the river.
ReplyDeleteThe burgers tend to be dry and plain at best. I understand this location has a two year lease. I wouldn't be surpised if they leave this location since they've done nothing to promote themselves in the community.
I agree that the burgers were not as fantastic as I had expected, but to me, it's better than some other burger joints out there. If I were to choose between White Spot and Romer's, it's Romer's all the way.
ReplyDeleteThe location is a bit out of nowhere and I also have not seen any advertisements or promotions regarding their new location so hopefully that will change soon. If they don't advertise this location, word of mouth may not be enough.
